Would you like a Bird?

This is a series of works I created between 2018-2025, reflecting on the landscapes and life forms I have lived around. The sub themes are on the value of aging, and accrued wisdome and beauty, the idea of care, and longing for one's home and family.

Birds are a favourite subject of mine since my childhood. These are from various times since over the last decade. The series includes the grown up trees seen through the window of our childhood home, the majestic ‘uppen’ or the Greater coucal who comes for the snails and chillies, prints of handrawn play tiles inspired by The Conference of the Birds, by Persian poet Farid ud- Din Attar, a pair of painted storks who appeared mysteriously in our yard a few years ago and finally an artist book on my fascination with birds with various sketches and memories that make these creatures objects of momentary hope and an eternal muse.
